Chasing Shadows

David Clavijo

If ever a prospective musician wanted to listen to an expert
creation, a slice of mastery of musical composition, on the subject of the
build and progression of a single piece of music, then I would be happy to
point to the latest offering from David
Clavijo called Chasing Shadows,
a piece that single handily manifests a cinematic arrangement, and carries the
listener with it every step of the way.
I would state that I believe that this is the closet that
Clavijo has come to creating something so good, it could with ease be used in a
major movie as a possible opening theme. The soft pastiche of piano which
continues throughout the project is empirical in its energies, but a solid rock
from which magic is created.
The string sections, especially towards the midway segment
entertain a slight Phillip Glass
ethic, whilst the symphonic flow and orchestral gestures pragmatically work
with the overall body of the composition, thus a neo classical moment of great
beauty is birthed, on the back of all the foundational work before it.
