It never ceases to amaze me the sheer beauty of some of the
music I am privileged to listen to, and this warm afternoon gifts me the
opportunity to embrace a new flute to me personally, the Japanese bamboo flute
(shinobue). Miki Saito is the artist,
and this glorious tonal lake of purity delivers a pitch perfect new debut
single called Zen Awakened.
The Shinobue and its
origins are tied to ancient agricultural ceremonies and its sound is
symbolically linked to the ascension of dragons. The flute is made from
"shino" bamboo, a material considered both simple and profound in
Japanese culture. The process of making the flute, including drying the bamboo
for years, can be seen as a connection to nature and its cycles.
Here Saito connects us all to the planet, and the music
contained within this marvellous structure is all encompassing and Zen like. Zen
of course originated from the Sanskrit word dhyāna, and is a form of Buddhist
practice that emphasizes direct experience, meditation, and simplicity over
doctrine or ritual, I meditate daily and find great comfort in it, and of
course peace too.
Zen Awakened by Miki Saito is indeed a meditative example of music that you could
literally leave on repeat for hours and be very pleased that you did so, it is
a single that ushers in calm, serenity and oneness for all, and I salute the
performance on flute, it is remarkable, pure, and bliss filled, I see nothing
but success for Zen Awakened by Miki Saito, a more masterful flute
offering you will not find.
