- 20

There is something deeply appealing about this style of solo
piano, the sheer depth of construction is sublime, the vastness of the
compositional structure and arrangement doubly so, it’s moving, deep and dark,
and portrays the season of winter perfectly, as we look towards this latest
single by Richard Dillon called - 20 performed and by Neil Patton.
The dark notes of the piano are our friend here; they
manifest a cold barren wasteland of timbre like never before, and usher forth a
track that is ultra-descriptive and brilliantly played by Patton. One must
applaud Dillon’s creativity, he has manifested some fine works of art in his
time, but - 20 must be his most
chilling yet.
The slow almost outer worldly vibrations are here, and they
are stunning, and with ease create a barren frozen vista of sorts, the
performance by Patton is tempered and crafted, but performed with such an
artistic flair that one cannot help but be impressed by its manifestation,
there can be no doubt that Richard
Dillon has composed something remarkable here, and thanks to pianist Neil Patton, that is now a gift to the
solo piano industry that will be remembered for a lifetime, and is solo piano
at its very best.
